2001 Toyota Avensis car not picking speed

My Toyota Avensis is not picking Up speed, Engine making huge sound, The RPM's are going high but not picking up speed, It reaches speed after some time and than works fine till I apply brakes and try to accelerate again.

On the assumption that your car has a manual gearbox. If the revs increase withouth the car gaining speed it sounds like your clutch is slipping.
