Sounds like flat battery . You could try a jump start , charging battery or getting battery replaced if found to be faulty .

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I have fixed the problem it was an immobiliser. I never new there was an immobiliser switch and I have had the car for 3 years. I must have switched it accidently and the car stopped as you would expect. Thanks again though.
