Could try spraying electrical contact spray . If that doesn't work , probably need replacing

then you do have to take the steering wheel off ?
Is that a big deal?

Sorry , never replaced them on a Ssangyong Rexton but on most cars you have to be very careful when working at steering wheel you do not activate the airbag
