2022 Ssangyong Rexton engine surge between 50 and 60kph - only when motor cold

Car: Ssangyong Rexton
Year: 2022
Variant: 2.2 turbo deisel
Categories: Engine & Drivetrain
I have a brand new 2022 Ssangyong Rexton Ultimate MY22. I Purchased vehicle last week. Within the first day or two it was apparent that when motor is cold the vehicle starts to "surge" between approx 50 and 60kph. Feels kinda like bad fuel or engine miss. I have to accelerate to stop it occurring. The problem goes away once you accelerate to above approx 60kph - or when engine "warms up". No warning lights whatsoever displays. The problem remains however for first 10 - 15 minutes of travel - then vehicle runs normally without any issue. My vehicle has only travelled approx 200k. Returned it immediately to Ssangyong. One Ssangyong Service centre assistant said it is occurring in the new Rexton model and appears normal. "They just do it until the engine warms up". Now the service centre don't appear to have any real ideas - but cant guarantee that engine will not suffer any damage from reoccurring problem. They have had the vehicle last 2 days and they still have it. They are still awaiting possible info/assistance from Ssangyong. I read a post here that there may already be a fix/upgrade from Ssangyong already developed - my Ssangyong service guys are not aware of it and have not been advised of it from Ssangyong.
However it appears this "surging when cold" issue seems to be affecting more than just my vehicle. Any info or suggestions on problem?

Nothing you can do except wait to see if they get any info from the technical section at the factory on what you are experiencing and possible fix or service bulletin

Hi Mate, exactly the same issue with my Rexton 2022 drove 1000k only, bought 3 weeks ago, and the same reply from a dealer they don't have an idea about it. Please keep updating it i'm from victoria.

There is an engine software update for this issue which you can get from the dealer and is covered by warranty. I've had the exact issue so have many owners. The dealers will tell you they don't know about the issue and doesn't do it and it's "normal characteristics" of the car! It took me a good two weeks of complaining and weirdly enough they didnt keep record of the work which I've been chasing up for, its a bit dodgy in my opinion.
I had it done last month and it doesn't do it anymore at all however noticing more of a knocking in the engine and I think the turbo is now leaking air not sure related to the update or not though, but was only a month ago had it done.

I have 2019 rexton and it to surges from time to time, I've been told it's doing a dpf clean, not sure if this is correct

It could possibly be a cause , but usually other signs

You will know whether active regeneration is taking place by the following symptoms:
Engine note change.
Cooling fans running.
A slight increase in fuel consumption.
Increased idle speed.
Deactivation of automatic Stop/Start.
A hot, acrid smell from the exhaust.

Our 2022 is doing it also, start drive in power mode to overcome until engine is warm (3 bars on temperature guage), otherwise car selects too high gear for fuel economy, Ssanyang need to write a fix into tune to not allow it to change up to a high gear until engine is warm. They should do a fix/recall....
