Skoda Roomster how can i open the tailgate which simply grunts at me when all other doors are unlocked?

previous problems with tailgate lock (half unlocked ) but gate catch not free   has always cleared after several attempts of locking/ unlocking/

Could be damaged wiring or lock assembly , this link shows . You may have to remove interior boot trim and manually open to gain access .
