2014 Skoda Octavia starter will not engage, lights come clunking noise from starter

When the key is in the ignition and turned to engage starter, I get a clunk and the lights on the dash go out, but the car will not start. 1 hour earlier it had started with no problem!

Sounds like dud battery , check battery voltage even though you charged it , if dud cells it wont hold a charge . If not that , check battery terminals , all earths , starter wiring / connections , power at starter
