1997 Seat Ibiza keeps overheating

car overheats and the fan will not cool it down some of the pipes connected to the water pump are hot and the other ones connected to it are stone cold is this normal? could the water pump b causing the problem ???

sounds possibly like Thermo stat has failed. Should be easy job to remove thermo stat housing and have a look. if my memory serves it should be a complete unit, if yours is in pieces or has bits missing would advise getting a new one.

Similar symptons could be the car very quickly overheats and can boil the fluid away in a very short amount of time.

if thermo stat is okay could be blocked rad, would have to check circulation before ruling out water pump.
