Check engine and engine fault lamb

I had the check engine light open for days and when i got it checked the mechanic sai that is the catalyst. I was going to change it and yesterday the fault engine lumb was flashing. The car is running perfect. What might be the problem? The car has only 80000miles

If the light is flashing there should be a fault code that can be retrieved with appropriate scanner .
