When I put the car in Park & turn off the engine, I cannot extract the key. However, if i move the gearshift from P to N & back again a few times, i can extract the key. Is this a sensor not working?

Only a guess it may be the gear selector interlock sticking intermittently ? Or it's in the gear selector mechanism
