jack the rear wheel up and check for any play in the wheel if there is play in the wheel then you will require a wheel bearing as for the noises remove the wheel and check that there is no foriegn objects in there ie stones

Wheel bearing would not cause a rattle, check for silly things like exhaust and it's mountings or a broken suspension spring.
