2002 Saab 9-3 ecm lights on,car start when cold but not when hot?

picked up my car from garage yesterday,drove for a mile ecm light comes on but car drive ok.went shopping came back car wont start.return on sunday car start but lot of white smoke from exhaust.

What was car in garage for ? Have to find out if white smoke is water or diesel smoke . Check coolant level for a start .
