1996 Rover 600 problem with gear shift problem on rover 620 automatic

Gearshift poblem when leaving in the Parking or Neutrol position during day or overnight . It seem to lock itself in position
When starting car find it difficult to move gearshift into gear . Can only do it by using a great deal of force .
Sometimes however the problem does'nt occur and can shift into gear without any problem .
Any help on this problem greatly appreciated .

Not really familiar with the set up on that car but I would think you will have to check out the gear selector mechanism / cable . Also if it has an ihibitor switch at
gear selector , check the solenoid and wiring in case it is locking the selector
