2002 Rover 45 car won't start!

Car: Rover 45
Year: 2002
Variant: 1.4
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Lights on dash came on while driving, battery, abs, srs, brake light and now that i am home and stopped the car and tried to start it again it won't start. It makes a funny noise when you turn the key...like a brrrrrrr noise...don't know how to explain it! When I was driving the car home and put the headlights on the speedometer went flat then turned lights off and it worked again, the radio was going on and off randomly also. Turned the indicator on and the speedometer went flat again and then turned it off and speedometer was fine. Know nothing about electrics so have no idea where to look for the problem. HELP!

Sounds like battery flat , possibly due to alternator failure .Either try jump start or charge battery and then get alternator tested ( simple test with meter )

Whittingehame, thanks for that help. I called my Dad in California and he said the exact same thing as you. I have the battery on charge so hopefully it will start tomorrow morning. I looked at the alternator belt and it's tight (dad said to check the belts, did what I could being a novice) but I will have the garage look at it on Monday! Thanks again! :)

Glad to help . If the belt was too slack you would normally get screeching noise when it was slipping . If you need any further advice , get back to forum and someone will help you .
