2002 Rover 45 screeching sound when driving...

Car: Rover 45
Year: 2002
Categories: Steering, Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres
Car is screeching, only when I am driving it, sounds like it's coming from the front left hand side. When I opened to look at engine their was some smoke coming from the same side but temp.gauge is not showing that it's overheating...could this be a brake problem. Just happened today, sounds like a very loud scratching if that makes sense!

Hard to diagnose from info supplied . If noise is coming from front wheel , could be brake pads needing replaced . If coming from engine , could be a belt slipping , alternator etc. .Better and safer to get it checked out asap .
