2003 Rover 45 sludge in water and temperature gauge

Car: Rover 45
Year: 2003
Variant: 1.6i
Categories: Engine & Drivetrain
i dont know a great deal about cars ive noticed have about half and inch of white sludge in my water also my temperature gauge only moving when the car is idle. If driving the temperature gauge stays below zero and doesnt move at all. Could this be a head gasket problem ?

hi there well firstly clean out the sludge from you header tank then take the car to a garage and have a snif test this will tell you straight away if your head gasket is the problem as the fluid will change from purple to a yellow hope this helps if it doesnt then flush the water system out and replace the anti freeze and water
