Engine light flashing

for past two days car felt a bit shuddery then today the engine light came on also noticed that it needed water put water in then an hour later started car and it made a loud crunching noise and all the water was all over the ground the engine ticks over but not first time and sounds more noiser like a petrol lawnmower and the engine light light is still on and theres water comming from exhaust gears and everything ok but feels as if it going to stall
