1998 Rover 45 can't figure out how to pull the fuel through to the engine

Car: Rover 45
Year: 1998
Took the car off the road in December as tax and MOT had run out and I am out of work.

Last time the car was taken out it ran out of fuel and I can't get it to fire. Turns over fine and there is plenty of fuel in now.

I need to start it to get it around to the garage for service/MOT.

Any assistance appreciated.

Can you hear fuel pump when you switch on ignition ? Here is a few points to check ,

The electric fuel pump is located inside the fuel tank and is energised by the ECM via the fuel pump relay in the relay module and the fuel cut-off switch.

There is a fail safe reset button in the engine bay, if somehow it has been switched it may need resetting for the pump to work, worth a try.

what would make the fuel cut off in the first place?would it be sensitive to a knock on the throtle sensor or would it have to be more drastic ie accident or engine fail?
