2004 Rover 45 hummong noise on reverse

Hi there.
I posted this question on this site about a humming noise when I reverse. It,s mainly when I lift the clutch up.
I thought it was my reverse sensors, but read the handbook and a test and they are working fine.
I wonder if the clutch is faulty or needs a new one??

If clutch was faulty it should affect all gears not just reverse .

If in doubt about sensors , could also disconnect reverse light switch at gearbox , which would eliminate that .

Hi.
I have done a test on my reverse sensors and these are OK.
The humming noise is still there. A friend of mine said it could be either the clutch or gear box. He said maybe gear box lacks oil.
I am just worried as I am driving the car and do not want to drive it if I am damaging my car.
The car is great in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th gear, just in reverse it,s making this noise.

Hi there.
I have just had my car serviced and they have found out what is wrong with my car, ie, humming/whining noise on reverse.
I was told it is the clutch, it could be a warn bearing.
Is it still ok to drive my car. I have no problems with the car in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, just in reverse.
