1994 Rover 45 humming noise on reverse

Car: Rover 45
Year: 1994
Variant: 1.6 Club
Categories: Leaks & Noises
Hi there.

I have a Rover 45 Club 1600cc. When I put my car into reverse and start reversing it makes a humming noise. This happens as I let the clutch out.

My car is fitted with reverse sensors, and made sure they are kept free of dirt.

Is there anyone can answer my question.

Cheers

If you switch ignition only on and put car in reverse , it will tell you if it is anything to do with reverse parking sensors .

Hi Whittingehame, thanks for information.
I have tried what you said. All what happens is the sensors bleep, as my car is in garage nr the wall. When I take it out of reverse it makes a few clicking noises.

The humming noise is more when I release the clutch slowly, if I release it quick it is ok.

So I wonder if the clutch needs sorting.

Rather strange . Thought it might possibly have been clutch bearing , but you would get it on all gears , not just reverse . I would keep an eye on it but wouldn't be unduly concerned unless it got worse .

Hi there.

My car only makes this humming noise in reverse and as I let my clutch out. It does not do it in any other gears, just reverse.

My car is also fitted with reverse sensors, does anyone think this could be the problem.

Also, reading in handbook it says, with starter to position 11, the parking aid operates automatically whenever reverse gear is selected and is switched off as soon as reverse is deselected. When reverse is selected a short beep will sound to confirm that the system is working.

If a longer higher pitched sound is emitted when reverse gear is selected, this indicates a fault with the system. My car in my garage tonight, so I will take it out in the morning and do a test.

Just want to know more about the humming noise.
