2004 Rover 45 missing in the wet

Car: Rover 45
Year: 2004
Variant: 1.8
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Car drives fine in dry conditions.
But in the rain starts missing, engine revs go all over the place and can cut out when stopped, or kangaroos when driving along. especially doesn't like to increase power when this is happening. Anyone got any clues as I can't track down the fault even tried spaying the engine with water over electrical contacts to try and see if I can find a short.
