1999 Renault Scenic on board computer?

I bought my son this scenic, it was fine for the first month or so, it started by being sluggish,garage said it needed new plugs so had them done, then it broke down a couple of times managed to bump start it first time took it to garage and they sai it was the alternator has it was not charging battery so bought new battery. Yesterday it broke down again rac came out and they said because the ligh had gone out on dashboard for immobiliser that the on board computer had gone and was told it woukd cost about £800 to fix. Does anyone know if this is the case or could it be something more simple?

Have you had the alternator that was declared faulty replaced ?

no not yet, was only told monday when my son took it to garage and got new battery, but it broke down again yesterday and was told by rac that it was on board com they towed it home and it wont start.

If the alternator is faulty it wont charge battery and will run down / flatten battery .This will in due course cause engine to stop .You could easily test alternator with meter and check new battery condition also . Might well be fault as advised but would suggest getting a second opinion / diagnose first .

Forgot to ask , is the engine turning over o.k ?

hi engine turns over, all dash lights come on, the passenger window will open, all exterior lights come on but not interior, hazarard lights wont come on and drivers window wont open, and immobiliser light stopped flashing and not on at all.Garage said alternator charging on low.
