With these it's usually a coil fault but best get it scanned.

Get rid of it. They are famous for this, and showing checks that don't exist. Handbrake comes on and won't release, or the other way round, which is great fun if you stall on a hill. You probably have water in the under bonnet fuse box. It's the kiss of death. Try a shot of WD40 over the fuses. This can get you home ok but won't be a complete cure. It will return. I finished up holding my battery, 10 feet from the car, whilst the engine carried on running. Everything was working, lights, wipers radio, everything. The only way to stop the engine was to pull 2 plug leads off. My scrapper told me they have a yard full of them, up to 2008 models, when upgrades were put in.
