2006 Renault Scenic immobiliser fault light on dashboard

Engine will turn over but won't start. Immobiliser fault light is on. Have been told that the car will need to be reprogrammed? Does this make sense? Could it be a key fault rather than an engine fault?

Well you could try the spare key if you have one. If not it's probably right.

Not really an engine fault.
cars ECU isn't recognising the key card.
It's like your trying to use one from another car.
