Brake lights on permanently

2003 Renault Scenic
Car: Renault Scenic

My brake lights stopped working and a mechanic told me I needed a new brake light switch. He fiddled about with the switch and got the lights going for a couple of days.
I bought a new switch and replaced it myself as it looked quite simple but now my brake lights are on without me pressing the brake. Is there something I have or haven't done that is causing this?

Usually operate by the pedal moving away from the switch when pressed that then allows the "button" of the switch to move out of the switch which makes the internal contact.
So it's a case of look see to make sure the button is being compressed back into the switch by the returning pedal breaking the circuit..
