2003 Renault Scenic handbrake doesnt work

well there's not a lot to say really other then the handbrake doesn't work at all.
It started over a year ago, it would beep and say parking brake fault while you were driving - not actually using it, but when the car was turned off for even as little as half hour it would be fine again. In the end we took it to the garage there were a few different code so they had to clear them and then see which one came back up. I had the car back for over three weeks before it happened again. it only happened while you were driving it. it would just randomly beep say parking brake fault. took it back to the garage they checked error code, cleared it and said it was the motor that needs changing.
Well that was a year ago and it has worked fine since (have NOT changed motor (yet!!))
Two weeks ago it stopped working completely just wont come on and beeps whenever the cars slows down.
Is this the handbrake motor or could it be something else???? - I've read up on handbrake motors and they are really expensive!!!
All this on top of the starting problems -(separate post- Trouble staring, cutting out, black smoke)
Where will it all end. - down the scrap yard and penniless!!!!!

The last time I seen the price for motor I think it was in excessive of £700 and that was a while ago .You would really have to check out the electrical side and the mechanical side of the parking brake as it could be one or both , no easy answer I'm afraid

i suggest you check the condition of rear brakes calipers for sticking and for binding h/b cabels if ok could be a control module problem or the motor not a cheap fix

Dont think its down to anything sticking as there is now noise from the motor at all when you try and use it.
Ive looking around and found a new Renault handbrake unit for £420. Any idea how much fitting and programming is likely to be?
