2005 Renault Scenic rear washer washes front screen

Car: Renault Scenic
Year: 2005
Variant: 1.9 Dci
Categories: Electrics, ECU, Warnings & Lights
Front wash/wipe works fine as does rear wiper. However, when I use the rear washer, the front washers work instead! There is one washer motor fitted in the base of the bottle with two pipes coming out of it. One goes to the rear, the other to the front washers. My guess is that the motor runs in one direction to work the fronts and in reverse to pump water to the rear and there are probably non-return valves somewhere to prevent water being sucked back. Cant find any blockages. Anyone had a similar problem?

Had same problem last year. Turned out to be the rear nozzle that was blocked.
I checked the pipes and they were clear, so thought it was the pump. Then just thought i`d poke a pin into the nozzle and some muck came out. So got a small plastic syringe and some tubing and connected it to the nozzle and sucked and pushed clean water thru---good grieve, you wouldn`t believe the amount of muck that came out. worked fine after.
If the nozzles are clear, then it probably is the pump. I think there is some info on the renault forums.

Found the answer. Pipes were clean and pump was working so took a closer look at the 'barrel' attached to the front of the pump to which the pipes to the washers are attached. After a bit of careful dismantling, I found that inside is a short stubby pin with rubber pads at each end. The idea is that water pressure from the pump pushes the pin across to seal the windscreen outlet when the rear screen is being washed and the rear screen outlet when the motor rotation is reversed and windscreen is being washed.
In this case, the pin was stuck very firmly up against the rear screen outlet. I couldn't pull in out and in the end resorted to attaching a piece of tube and a foot pump. It took 40 PSI to blow the pin out!!!
No idea why it was so firmly stuck - there was no dirt and the pin went back in and the pump now works perfectly again.
Best guess is that in the recent very cold weather, the washer fluid froze solid and the expansion forced the pin too far.

Hope this saves someone else the cost of a new pump
