2004 Renault Scenic driver's door lock?

Hi ,my drivers door will not lock (senic 2004) if i use the manual lock inside the door and close it its fine and unlocks ok, if i leave the door open and activate the central locking you can hear the door lock activate but it dose not move the small manual door lock switch, but it dose on all the other door's. also if i close the latch with the door open (to simulate the door being closed the door lock mechanisum dose not activate when you push lock but will activate when you push open. i have changed the door lock assembly but its still the same os where do i look next,could it be the door handle?
