Check battery light keeps coming on, engine doesn't know what gear to go in then looses power.

You need to get your battery and alternator LOAD tested and act on findings .

Been to garage today and they have both been check and came back all ok. Said I had to take it to Renault garage as they couldn't find anything. But that will cost a fortune.

If they haven't got the equipment to scan all the systems , not much they can do . Renault can and though expensive , may be cheaper in the long run . May have to bite the bullet and take the hit on cost .
