2000 Renault Laguna rev counter

Rev counter works fine for first couple of minutes after start up. It then falls back to zero and the speedo reading drops by about 5mph

No the rest of the instrument cluster is fine. It is just the rev counter. This is a MK1 laguna, not a MK2
