2002 Renault Laguna starting problems

Car: Renault Laguna
Year: 2002
Variant: automatic
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
our laguna starts fine when cold, if we stop and turn off the engine when we restart SOMETIMES the auto transmission light, the electrical fault light and the toxic fume lights stay on. If we start the engine it revs up and down and the throttle pedal has no control at all. sometimes we can turn it off and it restarts fine, sometimes it will not start unless you leave it for 20 minutes to cool down. Impossible to get petrol, we got stuck for half an hour at the petrol station today and had to push it out the way of the pumps.
Renault did diagnostic and replaced the tdc sensor, and cleaned and then replaced the throttle body. cost us about £500 and still the problem is exactly the same. Any ideas?

On some models that could be caused by a faulty TPS (throttle position sensor) but usually shows up on diagnostic scan .Could also check for a wiring fault between the ECU and throttle body.
