When driving all of a sudden when getting to 2000 rpm no power output or acceleration unless accelerator pedal released and reapplied.

possible accelerator cable bracket snapped. The outer casing that could of snapped, acts like a buffer for the pedal action/cable to work against, back n forth. If this casings jammed or broke would more than likely cause the symptoms you have.

Car doesn't have an acclerator cable ? Check the potentiometer / pedal assy .
