1999 Renault Laguna misfiring on start up

Car: Renault Laguna
Year: 1999
Variant: RT auto
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
Hi guys,
first trouble in ten years. When starting up misfiring with clouds of blue smoke and smell of burning oil. After about one or two minutes it settles down and drives fine.
I've changed all the HT leads and plugs, (three were oiled up). The engine service light is on plus the injector light..To make matters worse I'm on holiday at the moment so hoping to get back home.
There doesn't appear to be any water coming out of the exhaust if that's any help.If I switch off and back on after about a minute the problem recurs.
Thanks in advance for any ideas and if it's likely to be safe to drive home, about 80 miles.

Could check oil breathers and pipes etc. Any blockage/restriction can pressurize the crankcase .May also be valve stem oil seals worn but usually get signs of this with blue smoke out of exhaust when pulling away after idling . Could also check oil level as too much oil can cause this , but if you haven't topped it up probably not that . Hope this helps .

Thank you whittingehame...Actually I did top up about 100 miles ago,and slightly over the limit (quarter of an inch on the dipstick)....Is this likely to have caused any damage or will it rectify itself?

Normally that amount wont do any harm .Unless it was more and has blown most of the excess out .

Actually, if it were more oil, what damage could it have done do you think?

Briefly , too much oil can cause build up of pressure in engine crankcase forcing oil passed seals , piston rings etc. and also into exhaust where it burns and causes excessive blue smoke .If an awful lot of oil in engine and continued to be run , can cause more serious damage ruining engine .But to do damage , normally got to be way up dipstick , what yours is 1/4" above max should be ok . Safe journey home .
