2001 Renault Laguna fuel gauge going to max when ignition turned on

Car: Renault Laguna
Year: 2001
Variant: 1.8 sports tourer
Categories: Running Rough, Starting & Power Loss
when i turn the ignition on the fuel gauge goes to max and the central display (in middle of instrument cluster)doesn't work.although you can faintly see the 'start'logo.
The battery was flat and car had to be jump started the battery has now been charged but the problem persists.

Probably just bulb on central display . Might also be knackered fuel tank sender unit but could check wiring .

if its a laguna I it almost certainly not a fault but the 1st 30secs when the ignition is switched on the fuel gauge acts as a oil level indicator, sounds mad but its true
