take it from description gear selection is fine,sounds like driveshaft fault,common fault on renaults is with driveshaft splines wearing causing loss of drive

Look under car when someone puts it into gear and see if any driveshafts are turning. ( dont go in front of car ! )

will the gearbox be worn aswell,also do i change both sides or the gearbox side only

if the driveshaft spline is worn worn then just change the affected side,you will need to check splines on gearbox when driveshafts removed

Check and make sure it is a driveshaft fault first .
