2001 Renault Laguna engine management light

my cars engine management light is on all the time and sometimes flashes,in low gears it shakes and judders and i cant get it to go above 80mph.it is also using petrol at over twice the rate it was b4.
i think this started just after i set off the other day,i set off in first then second then as i went to go into third i slipped on the clutch pedal and it revved like mad,i then slammed it into third in panic,i dont know if this is why it is doing what it is now doing but i dont suppose it helped any.
can anyone give any insight into what is wrong with it?

Get it scanned and see what fault codes are shown .
