2000 Renault Laguna rpm and speed dial go to max when turing on ignition

when i turn the key in the barrel to start the car, the rpm dial goes to 7000rpm and speedometer to 110mph for about 2-3 seconds then returns to 0 .

Seems like panel going into self test mode for some reason .Some cars do this if battery is low / run down .Renaults are also known to have instrument cluster issues .

if all the instruments work normally the rest of the time then i would`nt worry about it

Thanks for this info. Additionally the radio was dead and the car light when opening the door stopped working.
Left it for a few hours and all appeared ok. I had to enter the radio code and the speedo dials operated correctly. Then later on the radio dialled and if i turn the ignition key round the rpm and speed dials go back to 7000rpm and 110mph.
Perhaps it is the battery - the car is 10years old and i've never had to replace it....
