2005 Renault Laguna top of engine covered in oil - oil light on intermitantly

We have just bought a Renault Laguna second hand, after driving for about 100 miles the oil light flashed on for a few seconds.
I checked the engine and found the top was covered in oil and steam is coming from what seems to be a hole at the top of the engine.
I think that oil must leaking out the top of the engine? Is that even posible?
I phoned the dealer and he wants us to have the car brought in so his mechanics can look it over.
However this is extremely difficult for us at this time.
Has anyone got any ideas?
The engine is the 2.2 Dci.
Pictures in the manual do not show this hole so I dont know if it should be there or covered up
Any help would be more than welcome

Seems like back pressure on engine blowing out oil . Also need to check cause of "steam". Might be head gasket gone .Sooner car returned to dealer for examination the better.
