2002 Renault Laguna have to shake gear stick to start car

When I press the start button the car more often then not wont start untill I Shake the Gear stick left and right. Is this some sort of sensor sticking.

most likely a sensor as you say this is so you dont start the car while in gear and injure some one or damage the car but do have it checked out by the dealer just to be sure
