Missfire

I have a slight missfire when the engine reaches temperature and the temperature gauge is going up and down if i change gear or brake it seams to run ok again for a while i have been told it just needs a service . Any idea's anyone i cant afford to spend much moneybon the car but i cant get to work without it .
