2002 Renault Laguna interior lighting

Just got this renault Laguna 1.9dci expression and although the interior door lights and footwell lights work when you open the doors, the ceiling lights and boot lights don't even though the map reading lights work fine. in addition to this the heater back lighting doesn't work and when I turn on the headlights the dash lights come on bright and then fade to vitually nothing with no response from the interior dimmer switch. I am hoping these problems are connected and it might be a fuse or something but could use some help if anyone has got any ideas.
