2003 Renault Laguna limp mode, can't use tiptronic only manual

Driving along, as car changes gear, it jolts and goes into limp mode. Will not move from auto into tiptronic. We've had this diagnosed and they just said unknown electrical fault. Could cost a fortune to find and fix.

Could try going back to the basics and change the automatic transmission fluid and filter if fitted. Maybe the oil has thickened up if it has not been changed for a while...
