2004 Renault Laguna slow accelatration,and whining noise,and some grey smoke

only happens when slowing down and pulling off,and has only happened today(21/6/12)
then when turned off made whining/squawking noise as if a alarm trying to go off,sounds very sorry for its self,then smoke comes from under car,then once car gets going the noise stops,but as building speed a slight whining noise,until reach approx 40
any thoughts on this as don't sound good,thx
