2002 Renault Laguna advice re turbo

For the past 2-3 week's when driving my car I sometimes get a popping sort of noise, instantly followed by a lack of power - this lasts no more than 2 seconds. When revving the car to 2000 rev's (stationary) I can hear the same noise. A friend state's that there may be a split pipe or loose connected pipe to or from the turbo!! There is no black smoke coming from the car, only the normal smoke that you would expect to see from a diesel. Any advice/help would be greatly recieved, thank you in advance. PS - mileage is 137,500. GRB
