Superfluous dropping down a gear to third gear then second gear with a massive clunk

often going up an incline, it just drops down a gear followed by dropping down another gear usually with a big clunk.

I would get the transmission fluid level checked and dependant on fluid , changed if needed . On some of the Renaults it was a sealed box that It is checked using diagnostic equipment . Not sure if this applies or not to your vehicle .

Well it certainly improved the issue after topping up the fluid. Diagnostics showed exchanger flow solenoid valve cicuit open or short to earth. Looks like further work to be done
