have you primed the fuel circuit so there is no air in it?
Answered Jan 20, 2012 (12 years ago)
Hi, I`m not sure but some diesel engines have to be bled after such changes to remove all the air and get the system primmed.

i have primed all the lines and if you put easy start in intake pipe engine runs if you poor diesel it will run then stop.

thanks for the quick reply

Still seems to indicate low pressure?

has the fuel filter been replaced and have you been using supermarket fuel?
Answered Jan 20, 2012 (12 years ago)
no been using BP fuel and have bought new fuel filter and not changed it yet do u think crank sensor could be the problem

A faulty crank sensor would bring the engine management light on, but i don`t think this is the problem. Have you have had trouble with it before?
Answered Jan 20, 2012 (12 years ago)
it could be a number of things unfortunately if you have access to diagnostic equipment you need to check parameters when turning vehicle over. i.e engine speed, fuel pressure etc it does sound like a fueling issue if it starts/runs on easy start
Answered Jan 20, 2012 (12 years ago)
recently it would cut out when driving but would start straight away
Answered Jan 20, 2012 (12 years ago)
it could even be a wiring fault.a faulty engine speed sensor could also cause this to happen the fuel pressure regulator fault could be a direct result from it cutting out suddenly. check the resistance of the engine speed sensor i think about 400 ohms is about right

thanks for your help i will check speed sensor tommorow and get back to you

you said you fitted a new diesel pump to engine has it been coded to the car if not i wont fire as the ecu is not talking to it correctly depends where you got pump from if genuine or breakers it will need coding but if from a remanufacter it should come with a generic code built in and shoule be good to go
Answered Jan 21, 2012 (12 years ago)
spoke to renault mechanic he said the pump is a straight forward pump change and only injectors need programing

Have you checked that your top pulley key is okay, just i had a similar issue with two vans kangoos and both had snapped the woodrift key on the top pulley.which had moved the timming just enough to cause the pump timming to be out they both still ran aparrantly it,s a saftey feature that saves the valves being damaged, just a thought that may help.

Hi Steve,
I have a similar problem with my Kangoo van. Your Q&A session seemed to fade out. Did you get it sorted & what was the problem? I went to pick the van from an expensive MoT, & it wouldn't start. After the MoT, they'd moved it to park it with no problems!! They put it on their diagnostic machine & in 'a sort of non-committal' way said they thought it was the diesel fuel pump. They failed to mention this was a dealer only part at £804 &, dependant on who you talk to, is a bad job needing the cam belt off. Basically, that makes it a scrapper!

Mines a 1.7 diesel 'Y' reg, great in all respects apart from it won't run, a fairly significant problem!!

I'm going to post a link on here, but any help you can give me would be very much appreciated.

Thanks, Jon
