Turbo

2005 Renault Kangoo 1.5
Car: Renault Kangoo
Year: 2005
Variant: 1.5
Categories: Leaks & Noises
The vehicle lacks power and makes a strange noise from the engine under load( sound like an air leak) smokes a lot on acceleration. Could it be the turbo faulty?
Problem added: Oct 7, 2011 (12 years ago)
Could be turbo but check turbo hose/ pipes for splits or collapsing .

Take off the induction hose where it meets the inlet manifold and look/feel in the inlet manifold for oil,if it's wet with oil then the turbo seals have gone.
Another clue is the oil level drop, the oil feed to the turbo will mean the engine is eating it's own oil,not a good idea to run it in this condition, the engine can end up running on the sump oil and reving until it bursts, you will not be able to turn it off with the key!

Thanks for your help. I cannot find any problems with the pipes etc. I also cannot get the hose off inlet manifold without damaging it and as it’s Sunday I can’t get a replacement. If the oil seals have gone presumably it will mean a new turbo anyway or can the seals be changed.
