Cannot Start Dash Says Select P OR N With Gearshift

When I put the key card in the car does a function check as usual and all seems OK. When I press Start the screen shows 'Select P OR N With Gearshift'.
The gearshift is already in the P position and I cannot move it from that. I know I have to press the brake to do this but nothing I do allows me to move the shift. I have also tried pushing the brake and trying to move the shift without the key card in.
So I am stuck with an unmoveable car. Any ideas?

Check brake lights are working to eliminate faulty switch . There should be a emergency over ride switch at gear selector similar to this link for a Megane , might help .
