2004 Renault Espace auotmatic gearbox/selector fault

The gear selector is jammed in 'D' (drive).
I ultimately had to switch ignition off whilst leaving the gearbox in 'D'. When re-inserting the key card the gear shift will move towards the rear and when moving back towards 'P' (park) position it jams again (assume back in drive position) and so won't allow the car to start.

First check the cable connection onto box and gear selector,Then check that the solenoid that locks the shift lever is working ,not sure if it,s an electric solenoid or cable but it,s usually linked to the brake pedal switch or position sensor for safety ,you need to see if that is moving.
