2003 Renault Espace sticking clutch n first gear

check lubricate clutch pedal bushes could also be fault on clutch master cylinder get these checked first before removing gear box to check clutch and operating mechanism in bell housing

Would the bushes on the master cylynder cause it to refuse to go into first gear

You dont have bushes on the master cyl . Bushes are on pedal shaft / carrier .Could also check clutch pedal return spring .Likely to be clutch master cyl or slave cyl or both .Could also be clutch knackered ie. pressure plate or centre plate .If springs on centre plate gone that gives judder but other causes also like engine mountings .Dont know if that model has a DMF (dual mass flywheel ) which is a common cause of that fault .

It judders like hell in reverse but not a lot of vibration in other gears

Unfortunately that model does have a dual mass flywheel. Cost around £300 to £500 depending on where you go

Buy the time you buy the DMF clutch kit and add on labour and incidentals , you are talking big money . You might be better fitting a solid flywheel kit if available for that car .
