1999 Renault Grand Espace 2.2 DCI 140,000 MILES
I have large amounts of black smoke from the exhaust when the car is under load ie up a hill I put my foot down on the accelerater with that I get a clatter noise from the engine and a loss of power black smoke, on the flat no problem no smoke until I put my foot down. When I say alot of smoke it belches out. can anyone help me many thanks Steve

if your car is a diesel it could possibly be a dribbling injector failing that if your air filter is blocked that also causes black smoke
